WBCS Optional Anthropology Question Paper I (2015)

GROUP A

Answer any three question, All question carry 30 marks.

1. Discuss the development of anthropology in India with special emphasis in post colonial India.

2. Describe the changes happened in human skeleton due to assumption of erect posture and bipedal locomotion with special emphasis on skull, vertebral column and pelvis.

3. Compare the distribution anatomical features and phylogenetic  position of the classical and progressive Neanderthal population with suitable example. 

4. Define growth. Name the different stage of human growth with distinct characters of each stage. Name and explain the different factors responsible for human growth and development.
5. Write short note on any two of the following.
    a) Forms of marriage Payments.
    b) Palaeoanthropology as a conjunctive approach.  
    c) Debate between substantivist  and formalist.


GROUP B

Answer any three question, All question carry 30 marks.       

6. Discuss the relationship between culture and civilization with special emphasis on Redfield-Kroeber model.

7. Differentiate between the concept of functionalism and exemplifying from the empirical studies made by B. Malinowski and A.R Radecliffe Brown.

8. State the characteristic features of a tribal market with an empirical example known to you.
9. Define ecological anthropology. Mention the different approaches of studying ecological anthropology. Illustrate the concept of cultural ecology as suggested by Julian Steward.
10. Write short notes on any two of the following.

     a) Anthropology and Post Modernism.
     b) Forensic Anthropology
     c) Anthropology of gender.

11. Write brief note on any two of the following.       10*2=20
     
      a) Importance of field work in anthropology.
      b) Role of religion in affluent society.
      c) The Concept of family as a social institution.
